Mental Health in Fragile States

Description:
This two day informal seminar emphasizes sharing experiences and formulating practical strategies on implementing mental health programs in fragile states. Introductory lectures to present key concepts will be followed by interactive sessions and case presentations around concrete examples from fragile states (for example Afghanistan, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Uganda).

Aims:

  • Increase the practical knowledge base on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) service delivery in fragile states, through analysis and documentation of good practice in different country situations and formulating ‘lessons learnt;
  • Define common elements for policy development and harmonization of interventions for MHPSS in fragile states, particularly in post-conflict societies, including reviewing the role of humanitarian NGOs and their relation to government structures, and the relationship between bilateral and multilateral actors;
  • Start a process of formulating a strategic framework for the development, implementation and evaluation of MHPSS in fragile states.

Participants

  • Experts in health systems development in post conflict settings;
  • Experts in global mental health;
  • Implementers of MHPSS NGO or governmental MHPSS projects in fragile states;
  • Policy makers in donor agencies and Ministries of Health;
  • Other interested students and academics.

Fees

Fees are £20 (lunch not included). Fees will be collected at the door. We regret that we will be unable to sponsor travel costs or accommodation for the participants.
